Breast cancer is the most common cancer and leading cause of cancer deaths in women of the Caribbean. Komen has taken steps to reduce breast cancer mortality in the Caribbean through a number of efforts, including scientific research, grants to local organizations and community health providers, as well as an established Affiliate in Puerto Rico.
Susan G. Komen Puerto Rico was established in March 2003 and held its first Race for the Cure® in San Juan in October 2005. It has grown to be the leading breast cancer organization on the island with the mission to save lives by educating the public about the importance of early detection and ensuring quality screening and treatment for all.
