    Job Description:

    Basic Function
    Responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive planned giving program that will attract deferred gifts in support of the organization’s development goals. Serves as the organizational expert in planned giving and oversees all activities and support for cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors and their professional advisors.

    Primary Responsibilities
    - Develops and implements a planned giving program that supports the development goals of the organization, both at the national and Affiliate levels. This includes the preparation of annual plans, strategies, and timelines designed to cultivate, solicit, and steward significant support. Manages a portfolio of planned giving prospects and steward donors through to completion of a planned gift.

    - Advises and assists prospective donors and their professional advisors in their charitable and estate planning efforts (estates, trusts, life insurance, charitable gift annuities, etc.). Acts as the liaison between donor, financial/legal representation and the organization.

    - Oversees administrative procedures and compliance with legal, financial, fiduciary, and gift acceptance policies. Implements systems and processes to streamline the planned giving continuum, including prospect identification, cultivation and stewardship of donors.

    - Collaborates with Affiliates regarding planned giving activities and programs. Provides leadership and guidance to Affiliates as needed. Ensures the planned giving program works in harmony with other donor cultivation programs.

    - Enhances donor communication and education on all aspects of planned giving. Oversees the development of all planned giving marketing materials, communications, publications, and institutional training to promote planned giving.

    - Works closely with internal financial/legal colleagues and outside firms/agencies/consultants to establish and manage gift annuities and charitable trust programs.

    - Monitors legislative changes regarding tax laws that affect donor advised funds, gifts of IRAs and other giving vehicles, and works in conjunction with legal counsel on planned gifts.

    - Maintains accurate and up-to-date information on planned giving activities, donors, and prospects using the donor database Salesforce. Provides regular planned gift reports to Vice President, Development.

    - Builds and provides a program to foster collaboration with development staff including planned giving information, direction, coaching, and problem resolution when working with donors and prospects.

    - All other duties as assigned.

    Job Qualifications:

    Minimum Experience Required
    The ideal candidate will have:

    Work Experience: 10 – 15 years

    Education: Bachelor’s Degree Required / MBA or JD preferred. Experience may be substituted for some of the education experience.

    Experience should include:

    - Demonstrated success in donor development and in organizing, implementing and marketing a planned giving program.
    - Strong working knowledge of planned giving vehicles, and knowledge and understanding of tax laws affecting charitable gift planning.
    - A track record of planned giving database mastery, including the ability to generate a variety of individualized and program reports.
    - Some planned giving training or seminar presentation experience, and the ability to travel outside normal business hours.
    - Attention to detail with the ability to plan programs, evaluate progress and monitor expenses.
    - Excellent organizational and time management skills with strong ability to manage responsibilities independently and follow through on all projects and assignments.
    - Must be able to work effectively with and quickly gain the respect and support of various constituencies who will provide important lead development, including senior leadership, board members, staff, consultants, current donors, Affiliate representatives and community leaders.
    - The individual must be an effective and supportive communicator, possess outstanding relationship building skills, and able to influence and build credibility with donors, lay leaders, community partners, staff and Affiliates.
    - Must demonstrate the ability to impart knowledge, develop skills and mentor staff.

    In addition to the qualifications above the successful candidate should have: Knowledge of using a CRM preferably Salesforce and ability to use planned giving software programs for gift illustrations.

    Travel requirements: Ability and willingness to travel up to 50%.
