    Susan G. Komen is the world’s largest breast cancer organization, funding more breast cancer research than any other nonprofit outside of the federal government while providing real-time help to those facing the disease.     Description:

     

    The newly created position of Community Events Specialist serves a key fundraising role in the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area on behalf of Susan G. Komen HQ.. S/he will be a part of a year-round cultivation and engagement strategy for key constituencies – MORE THAN PINK Walk™ (MTPW) participants and other donors, survivors and those living with breast cancer, community and event volunteers, and our mission delivery partners This position has direct responsibility for the MTPW volunteer program, communications/social media calendar, and office staff support, in addition to serving as an important member of the DC MORE THAN PINK Walk team.  

      

    Primary Responsibilities

    · Under the direction of the Senior Manager, assist in the recruitment of corporate, individuals, and teams, including follow-up phone calls, meetings and speaking opportunities to promote
    event participation 

    · Oversee the recruitment, training, coordination and recognition of volunteers for the DC MORE THAN PINK Walk and other year-round activities to support the DC community. 

      

    · Oversee the MTPW website, email communications, social media accounts and community fundraising eventswith guidance from the MTPW Sr. Manager. 

    · Work collaboratively with the NCR Team to manage the strategy and content of the NCR website and social media accounts.  

      

    · Provide administrative support to mission and development staff and volunteers by assisting in ongoing office, special event planning and event fundraising activities.

    · Assist in implementing logistics for events, including MORE THAN PINK Walk.   

      

    · Develop timelines and systems to improve the distribution of materials and effectively manage tasks for all special events. 

      

    · Support reporting and data management needs, including donation processing and participant support.  

      

    · Partner with staff to review expenses and make cost-effective vendor recommendations.

    · Ensure the confidentiality and security of proprietary information.

    · Perform all other responsibilities and projects as assigned by his/her immediate supervisor and senior management.
      

    Job Qualifications:

    Minimum Experience Required

    · The successful candidate will be a college graduate with a degree in marketing, communications, event management, public relations or related field, or equivalent experience.  

      

    · Experience in event execution, community engagement, relationship/partner cultivation, meeting
    planning, production and/or promotion required.  

      

    · A minimum of 2 years direct experience required, including nonprofit development, volunteer, or special event management.  

      

    · Computer proficient in Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Access). Experience using databases a plus. 

      

    · Excellent analytical, verbal and written communication skills.  

      

    · Detail-oriented and strong organizational skills.  

      

    · Effectively multi-task, establishes priorities, and work in a fast-paced environment. Highly efficient in time management and can meet deadlines under pressure. 

      

    · Active listening and problem-solving skills. 

      

    · Ability to travel locally required. Occasional overnight travel as needed. 

      

    · Ability to carry up to 25 lbs.  

     

      

    · Must be poised and possess strong public speaking skills. The ability to meaningfully engage audiences of all sizes in a genuine and professional manner. Excellent written and verbal skills are essential. 

    Preferred Experience
    Experience with social media tools and Luminate Online/Teamraiser preferred.
