Jane Ambro has been involved with the Indianapolis Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the Komen Indianapolis Race for the Cure® since before the first Race ever took place. During the summer of 1991, Jane, as an employee of Little Red Door Cancer Agency, began developing a Mammography Assistance Program that Little Red Door would administer with the proceeds from the inaugural event, which was scheduled for April 1992. Jane laughed when she said, “That first year, I requested $11,000 for MAP, and I got $35,000! We were being so proactive and organized; we wanted the program ready to go the moment the funds arrived. We certainly didn’t anticipate how large it would need to be.”

Jane worked with the Affiliate as a grantee for nine years. During that time, she developed the MAP program into a force that could partner with numerous community organizations that served uninsured and underinsured women. The MAP program at Little Red Door remains the Affiliate’s largest grantee, helping thousands of women each year.

When a new professional position with Clarian Health took Jane out of the grantee role, she jumped into volunteering for the Affiliate in multiple ways. She co-chaired the Pink Ribbon Celebration (formerly the Survivors’ Tea) for two years and has served as the Race sponsorship co-chair and/or race sponsor liaison for five years. For the 2007 Race, she has agreed to serve as a sponsor liaison and the merchandise committee co-chair in addition to continuing her service as a board member and grant committee member, positions she has held since 2001.

Jane is the kind of volunteer that everyone hopes to find. She satisfies her commitments completely; everything is done on time and with the highest level of professionalism. Jane never seeks out recognition for herself and her accomplishments. Her vision has led to the creation of programs that continue to serve the needs of women 15 years after their inception. There is no doubt that the Komen Indianapolis Affiliate will still be benefiting from her involvement 15 years from now!
