I was 28 years old when I was diganosed with stage IIB invasive breast cancer. I had already watched both my mother and grandmother battle the disease, but never thought that I would be doing the same, not at my age anyway. I went through 6 rounds of chemo (and I wore heels to every round) and in May I underwent a bilateral mastectomy. There was a part of me that felt like losing my hair and breasts would leave me feeling like less of a woman, but I’ve actually never felt more like a woman. It’s true that you never know how strong you truly are until being strong is your only option. My faith in God and amazing support system have carried me through. To anyone battling breast cancer, sometimes the battle in your mind can be just as tough as what’s going on with your body, so it’s important to stay positive and surround yourself with positive people.
