Vulnerable Community Grants

Susan G. G. Komen for the Cure® is working to eliminate late stage diagnosis and breast cancer disparities impacting vulnerable communities in the United States.  For the last 15 years, we have seen a decrease in breast cancer mortality rates for all women in the United States, irrespective of race/ethnicity. i  Although overall mortality rates are improving for individual populations, when taken separately, the gaps between groups aren’t improving at all.  Some women are more likely to die of breast cancer than other women. Since 2007, Komen for the Cure has invested more than $7 million to support projects that:

  • Provide financial assistance to patients undergoing treatment for breast cancer;
  • Enhance the coordination and delivery of breast cancer and breast health services by improving community-based service delivery models that address health disparities and issues associated with access to care; and
  • Develop multi-disciplinary partnerships (in targeted regions) to work collaboratively toward developing long-term solutions that directly address breast cancer mortality.
