The Komen College Scholarship Program

I made a promise to my mother to continue to excel in school in the hopes of going to a great college... My mother’s death only heightened my passion to want to succeed in each one of my goals. There is no way that I will let my mother’s death go in vain. She spent 14 years raising me to be the best person that I can be. I will not stop until I know I have made her proud.

Meet the Scholars Button

Thank you for your interest in the Susan G. Komen for the Cure College Scholarship Program. In 2001, Komen established the college scholarship program to help students who would find attending college to be a significant financial burden due to the loss of a parent or guardian to breast cancer or their own breast cancer diagnosis at age 25 or younger. The program has evolved into a dynamic partnership between Komen and students who serve in their communities, sharing Komen's message of breast cancer awareness and raising funds while pursuing their baccalaureate degrees. The award is a generous scholarship of $10,000 a year for up to four years to attend a state university in pursuit of a baccalaureate degree. Scholarship recipients are selected based on scholastic achievement, community service, financial need and demonstrated leadership potential.

Program Support

"Thank you so much for believing in me and supporting me in my dream to become a teacher. I hope to make a great impact in many lives...I am deeply honored to be able to represent your generosity by giving to others as generously as you have given to me." - Kayla Sperling, 2006-2010 Komen Scholarship Recipient

Last year, the Scholarship Program experienced an overwhelming 80% increase in applications; however, due to funding constraints Komen had to decrease the class size by nearly half, leaving many deserving students without support. To sustain and grow this program that has propelled the academic careers of nearly 50 bright young minds, we need your help.

"A major reason why I strive so hard to become the best man I  can be is not only because I want to honor my mother's dream of having a successful son; I want to be somebody that inner city youth can look up to as the epitome of an African American male...I strongly believe that I can make a positive impact on my community." - Valdama Johnson, 2007-2011 Komen Scholarship Recipient
