The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Kicks Off 2004 Komen Race for the Cure® Series with New Sponsor
National Series Sponsor Quilted Northern Ultra® Supports World's Largest 5K Series
DALLAS - March 23, 2004 - The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation kicked off the 2004 Komen Race for the Cure® season today with the announcement of its new partnership with Quilted Northern Ultra as National Series Sponsor.
Through sponsorship of the Komen Race for the Cure® Series, corporate partners like Quilted Northern Ultra help the Komen Foundation fund outreach programs to help women and their families facing breast cancer today while investing in research that will one day find a cure. In addition to their sponsorship of Race Day activities, Quilted Northern Ultra will support the fight against breast cancer year-round with breast cancer awareness programs for their employees and customers. Planned efforts include promoting the Komen Foundation's Web site, www.komen.org, on select product packaging.

Komen Race for the Cure®
Funds from the 2004 Komen Race for the Cure® Series support non-duplicative breast cancer education, screening and treatment projects for the medically underserved in more than 100 communities around the world. Funds raised from the Foundation's signature program also contribute to the renowned Komen Foundation Award and Research Grant Program, which supports groundbreaking breast cancer research, meritorious awards and educational and scientific programs around the world. Additionally, the Komen Race for the Cure® Series is a vehicle for educating the public about the importance of early detection, which provides more treatment options and a greater chance of surviving the disease.

Since its origination in Dallas in 1983, the Komen Race for the Cure® Series has grown from one local Race with 800 participants to an international Series of more than 100 Races with 1.5 million people expected to participate in 2004. With one-mile family walks, 5K runs/fitness walks and post-Race celebrations, the Komen Race for the Cure® invites people of all ages and fitness levels to make a difference in the fight against breast cancer.
