Highlights from the Mission Conference
The Komen Foundation's Eighth Annual Mission Conference, A Promise in Action, brought together leading experts in the breast cancer field. Presenters shared their breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment projects supported by the Komen Foundation's Award and Research Grant Program and the Komen Affiliate Network presented within the context of real-life survivor stories.
Set against a more intimate backdrop, this conference provides a unique opportunity for participants to learn about current research, interact with experts in the field and hear how current trends are impacting breast cancer survivors in the real world.
The 2005 conference highlighted how recent advances in breast cancer can be integrated at the local level to improve the quality of care for those touched by the disease. Expert panel presentations covered the broad spectrum of breast cancer issues including prediction, prevention, detection, treatment and survivorship. During each of the five plenary sessions, survivors humanized complicated research by sharing their personal experiences and moderating the expert panel. During the Mission Conference, a variety of general and breakout sessions encouraged an educational exchange between survivors, advocates, researchers and other health care professionals.
** Because there were so many great questions asked during the general sessions that the panelists did not have time to respond to, we have posted the answers here. Check back each week as we add new questions and answers.**
