Thought Leaders from Across Nation Help Komen for the Cure Strengthen Breast Health Programming, Outreach to Medically Underserved
DALLAS - April 3, 2007 Susan G. Komen for the Cure has announced new members of three minority advisory councils: the African American National Advisory Council (AANAC), the National Hispanic Latina Advisory Council (NHLAC) and the Asian American Pacific Islander National Advisory Council (AAPINAC).
Members of Komen for the Cure's minority advisory councils assist the organization in identifying gaps in breast health and breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment in specific population groups. Advisory council members are actively engaged in helping Komen plan strategies to decrease disparities in breast cancer mortality rates in minority population groups. Advisory council members serve for a period of three years.
"The combined expertise of our minority advisory councils enable Komen to allocate resources to meet breast health and breast cancer needs in population groups that are chronically underserved, " said Cheryl Kidd, MPH, director of education and the chief facilitator for Komen for the Cure's minority advisory councils.
