Applications for 2010 Awards For $100,000 Now Available
DALLAS – September 23, 2009 – Thanks to a $100,000 grant from Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, The Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO) presented a prestigious Clinical Investigator Award this month to a Texas-based researcher seeking a better way to personalize breast cancer therapies.
The grant is the second Clinical Investigator Award in breast cancer research funded by Komen for the Cure.
The award is designed to promote patient-oriented research through the training of surgical oncologists in clinical and translational science. The latest awardee is Funda Meric-Bernstam, M.D. from The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
The award runs for two years ($50,000/year), and starts October 1.
The SSO plans to present its next round of Clinical Investigator Awards in Spring 2010.
Applications for the 2010 SSO Clinical Investigator Award, funded again by Komen, are now available. Applicants must serve a central role in the conduct of a specific clinical research project. This could include a leadership role in a cancer trial, in cancer outcomes research, or a translational research project related to a prospective clinical trial.
The $100,000 award runs for two years. Applicants must be surgical oncologists within 10 years of completion of training and full SSO members.
Research proposals are being accepted through December 18, 2009, for consideration.
