    Job Description:

    Basic Function

    The Director of Marketing and Communications will lead the strategy, development, and execution of the marketing and communications programs for Komen Colorado.


    Primary Responsibilities

    Marketing and Communications
    • In collaboration with the senior team, develop an annual communications and marketing plan to motivate key internal and external audiences to donate, participate in events, increase understanding of Komen Colorado’s local impact, and take other actions to support the organization’s strategic goals. Create year-round community awareness of the Affiliate through the use of effective marketing and public relations strategies, proactive media relations, and positive relationships throughout the 22-county service area.
    • In partnership with the CEO, manage in-kind, paid, and earned media relationships across online, television, radio and print platforms. Responsible for solicitation and negotiation of all media sponsorships and vendors/contractors.
    • Develop and execute earned media strategy, including cultivating relationships with reporters.
    • Develop and implement comprehensive social media campaigns across multiple channels to engage priority demographics and drive target audiences to donate, participate in events, or take other offline actions to support the 

    Affiliate’s mission.
    • Develop strategic key messaging consistent with Susan G. Komen® branding that emphasizes Affiliate’s local community impact and provide training to Komen Colorado staff, board and volunteers.
    • Maintain integrity of Komen Colorado brand and guidelines.
    • Partner with development staff to ensure proper recognition and stewardship of donors.
    • Responsible for distribution and production of agency-wide publications, including but not limited to, electronic newsletters, annual report, brochures, fact sheets, promotional materials, website content, and social media presence. Ensure quality, accuracy, and consistency of message and design to further the mission and image of Komen Colorado.
    • Responsible for production of event-specific marketing materials, including but not limited to, segmented email communications; creative for online, television, radio and print advertisements and PSAs targeting priority demographics; videos; posters; and sponsorship brochures.
    • Ensure marketing and public relations materials are designed to reach diverse communities (ex: Hispanic, African American, rural Eastern and Aspen) including but not limited to development and distribution of Spanish-language materials.
    • Act as Affiliate representative with Spanish-language media.
    • Serve as a communications resource to support the Affiliate’s mission, public policy and fund development efforts.
    • Serve as spokesperson for the organization as needed.
    Race for the Cure will host 20,000+ participants at the Pepsi Center.

    Program Management
    • Responsible for supervising the Marketing & Communications Coordinator, external vendors and contractors, and interns.
    • Develop and manage marketing and communications budget.
    • Manage volunteer-driven Marketing and Communications Committee.
    • Analyze and report effectiveness of program expenses in motivating target audiences to donate, participate in events, increase understanding of Komen Colorado’s local impact, and take other actions to support the organization’s strategic goals.

    Job Qualifications:

    Minimum Experience Required
    • Minimum 10 years of experience in marketing and/or public relations with emphasis on graphic design, online/digital media, earned media.
    • Demonstrated experience in writing, editing and designing materials for print and web-based communications.
    • Proven success developing and implementing paid and earned multi-media campaigns to motivate multiple demographic segments to take action.
    • Strong understanding of consumers’ utilization and engagement with online, television, radio and print platforms.
    • Strong public speaking skills and experience creating and delivering impactful presentations
    • Self-motivated, team player with the ability to meet deadlines, remain flexible and adjust to changing priorities.
    • Strong project management skills, showing ability to leverage resources and partnerships.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office. Familiarity with website design/management and graphic design programs.
    • The ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed to meet Affiliate needs and travel throughout our 22-county service area.

    Preferred Experience
    • Familiar with Convio, Salesforce, and WordPress platforms.
    • Bilingual – proficient in English and Spanish.
    • Understanding of women’s healthcare issues surrounding breast cancer and healthcare navigation.
