    History

The North Texas Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure serves Collin, Denton and Grayson counties, home to approximately 1.4 million residents. This three-county area lacks a county hospital, which leaves many residents without access to health care. Therein lies the demand that led to the creation of the North Texas Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, which was founded in 1991 by a small group of volunteers committed to fighting breast cancer and helping serve uninsured andunderinsuredbreast cancer patients on a local level.

    Our Mission Work

    Programs
The North Texas Affiliate held its fourth Annual Survivor Brunch and Fashion Show on Saturday, March 29, 2008, with over 300 survivors and their supporters in attendance. The event, sponsored by Alcatel-Lucent, celebrates breast cancer survivors and honors their fight against this deadly disease. Karen Borta of CBS 11 Television in Dallas emceed the festivities.

This year's fashion show featured breast cancer survivors modeling spring fashions from Coldwater Creek, New Balance and Nordstrom. Along with fashion, the event featured a health fair sponsored by Presbyterian Hospital of Allen and Presbyterian Hospital of Plano.

Additionally, the event served as the Affiliate's Grant Reception, whereAffiliate representatives announced the13 2008-2009 grant recipients. Combining the Survivor Brunch and Grants Reception brings survivors and grantees together to demonstrate the real impact grantee efforts have in the life of the community.

Grantees receive a record-setting $1,000,000 in grants to help the local community

    Grant Awards

Our Local Presenting Sponsor, Electronic Data Systems (EDS), was proud to host more than 12,000 runners and walkers at their Global Headquarters in Plano, Texas. In 2008, our Race is June 7th and we hope to reach 15,000 participants.
