Edna Slack of the Northeast Louisiana Affiliate is often described as quiet and unassuming, but is someone who can and will get the job done. Edna, a 13-year breast cancer survivor, has worked with the Affiliate for 11 years. Soon after starting as a volunteer with the Komen Northeast Louisiana Race For the Cure®, Edna convinced her employer to match its employees’ entries and donations to the Race. This very successful fundraising program has continued to benefit the Affiliate for the past 11 years.

In addition to her fundraising efforts for the Affiliate, Edna has served on the board of directors and as secretary, treasurer and president of the Affiliate. As a board member, she has gone above and beyond the job requirements for each of the positions she has held. She has also served on the Race committee throughout her entire involvement with the Affiliate, and is always available to help with assignments outside her official role.

In addition to all her accomplishments, Edna has brought in the largest corporate team to the Komen Northeast Louisiana Race each year, with approximately 350-400 team members. Edna is no longer a board member, but still volunteers as a Board advisor and as a member of the Race committee. Edna is a volunteer to be admired and is a great role model for others. Every Affiliate needs at least one “Edna” on their Board and Race committees!
