Georgia Little's battle against breast cancer began seven years ago. The only one in her family to battle breast cancer, Georgia had participated in the Komen Peoria Race for the Cure® prior to her diagnosis, but never thought she'd get breast cancer herself. This disease has challenged Georgia to re-evaluate her life and future, to live each day one day at a time, to change her priorities and to put first things first.

Since her diagnosis, Georgia has become a tireless advocate for early detection. She encourages women to take care of themselves and know their bodies. She tells them to be their own best advocate. Concerned with the disparities in breast cancer mortality rates among different races, she especially reaches out to women of color, and challenges researchers to do the same.

As a volunteer for the Komen Peoria Memorial Affiliate, Georgia served on the founding committee for Pray for the Cure. This program, now in its third year, enhances the spiritual wellbeing of breast cancer survivors though the recovery and healing process. Georgia also reaches out to women who are newly diagnosed. She is always available to accompany them to that first doctor's appointment or chemotherapy session. Her counsel is often sought as women begin their journey with breast cancer. An excellent spokesperson for Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Georgia is also called upon to speak publicly on behalf of the cause. Beautiful inside and out, she is a model at the Pink Ribbon Survivor Fashion Show, and she is a volunteer for other organizations in the Peoria community.

Georgia is motivated by her five granddaughters, whom she hopes never have to go through what she's been through. In recognition of her personal perseverance as a breast cancer survivor and dedication to raising awareness about breast cancer, Georgia was named the Honorary Team New Balance member for the 2006 Komen Peoria Race for the Cure®.
