National Capital Area Grants Program

Up to seventy-five percent of net funds raised from the Susan G. Komen Global Race for the Cure® stay in the National Capital Area to address breast cancer disparities for the medically underserved. The remaining 25 percent of net funds will be invested in international community education and outreach programs through the Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Global Promise Fund. 

  

Grant Opportunities 

Komen is working to reduce rates of late stage diagnosis and mortality with an emphasis on eliminating breast cancer disparities. Applications are currently being reviewed for grants to support high impact breast cancer programs in the National Capital area that address the priorities described in the 2010 Community Profile, a needs assessment of Washington, D.C. and seven surrounding counties.

Application Deadline:        Friday, August 24, 2012, 5:00 PM EST 

All applications must be submitted through Komen’s new online Grants e-Management System (GeMS).  Registration is required to access the system.  No mail or fax copies will be accepted.

Grantwriting Workshop 1:     July 17-18, 2012 from 9am-3pm 

The Grantwriting Workshop will provide important information and helpful tips on the following topics: 

·         Komen’s 2013 funding priorities 

·         Program evaluation  

·         Writing strong goals and objectives 

·         Budgeting 

·         Logic models 

·         Developing a comprehensive project plan

Please note: Attending the two-day Grantwriting Workshop is not required but strongly encouraged. The new online submission process will also be covered during this event. 

In addition to the Grantwriting Workshop, one-on-one Technical Assistance sessions will be available.  These must be scheduled in advance. 
 

Technical Assistance Sessions:    July 23-27, 2012 

Applicants may schedule 30 minute meetings with the Program Manager, Community Grantmaking to discuss questions and ideas related to their proposed application.  Komen staff will not review any written drafts of grant proposals.  Please send an email to nationalcapitalarea@komen.org to schedule a time.  This is not a requirement. 

  

Award Notification:  December 2012
