Basic Function
Plans, develops, and directs the process of solicitation, review, selection, funding, and science management of research grants supported by Susan G. Komen for the Cure; Ensures that Komen’s principles of scientific excellence, fairness and transparency throughout the research process Ensures effective coordination across legal, accounting, communications, and Affiliate departments; Ensures effective communication about Komen’s research process and investments; Identifies and implements novel models for grantee support and collaboration; Manages technical support services contractor staff and budgets; Helps establish and modify strategic and operational directions for Komen’s Research Programs.
Position Qualifications
Required:
Masters degree or equivalent required, preferably in basic or applied sciences or health related field.
Requires 6 - 8 years of experience in research and administration in a health related field.
Requires previous managerial or supervisory experience and fiscal management experience.
Extensive knowledge of the scientific process and research principles as well as research funding and grant-making operations.
Knowledge of breast cancer research and understanding of scientific terminology.
Strong project management, staff management, and team building skills.
Must have strong contacts in scientific and medical communities related to breast cancer research.
Solid public speaking skills needed.
Preferred:
Doctoral degree, preferably in basic or applied science or health related area, plus 8 or more years of experience as referenced above.
