In addition to general health insurance, there are limited health insurance policies that provide extra coverage for certain events, such as accidents, heart attacks, cancer or hospitalization. These policies can help pay for costs that are not covered by your main health insurance policy. For example, an inpatient hospital policy—also called a hospital indemnity policy—is a type of limited policy that pays a set amount of money for each day of hospitalization (up to a certain number of days). This money can be used for medical expenses or for non-medical costs that are related to hospitalization, such as food and lodging for family members.
