    Principal Investigator:
    Simon Powell, M.D., Ph.D.

    Principal Investigator Bio:
Dr. Powell is a cancer physician-scientist. His special interests are the molecular mechanisms of DNA double-strand break repair, which are needed to repair the DNA damage caused by ionizing radiation and some cytotoxic drugs. In addition, he is developing a new approach to the treatment of locally advanced and node-positive breast cancer with true inverse planning techniques, which significantly changes the profile of the distribution of dose to normal tissues. Dr. Powell is currently a principal investigator on individual research grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). He serves on the editorial board of the journal Cancer Biology and Therapy and is a past associate editor of the International Journal of Cancer and Radiation Research. He was a member of the Radiation Therapy and Biology study section at the NIH from 2003-2007. He has received numerous invitations to speak at scientific meetings internationally and in January 2008 chaired the Gordon Research conference in Radiation Oncology. Simon N.
