Vascular-targeted photodynamic therapy (VTP), imaging (VTI) and on-line prognosis of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) using novel BCLs and BCL-RGDs.

    Detection/Diagnosis/Prognosis

    Scientific Abstract:
A new, minimally invasive treatment, detection and prognosis strategy for localized breast cancer, in particular ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is proposed. Efficient screening has increased early detection of new DCIS cases to ~ 50,000/year in the US, pressing to a shift towards breast conservation therapy. However, recent studies point at a significant recurrence rate after local excision (LE) even if followed by radiation therapy (RT), particularly in the younger age (

    Lay Abstract:
A new, minimally invasive imaging, treatment and prognosis strategy for localized breast cancer, particularly ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is proposed. Efficient screening has dramatically increased early detection of DCIS cases in the US and consequently the community need for breast conserving therapies. However, the available therapeutic arsenal is limited to dissection of the tumor and periphery, optionally followed by radiation of the whole breast. The significant rate of recurrence after such treatment particularly at the group age of
